Uganda Commissioning

Posted by: rojtweb

Many thanks to all who attended the Uganda 2011 Commissioning Service at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Sunday (10th July). The church was packed with family, friends and supporters of the team heading to Uganda on Friday 15th July.

The team have been preparing for the trip for the past year, including attending monthly training sessions, raising all money required for the trip, preparing to teach lessons and much more. On Sunday evening, Georgia Dowd spoke wonderfully about how God has been working in her life while she has been preparing for this trip.

The team is made up of 26 teenagers from Heswall Youth Fellowship, plus leaders and young leaders, organised into three smaller teams. During their 3 weeks in Uganda they will be working alongside Ugandan churches and schools, teaching lessons, running holiday clubs, doing practical work and much more. A medical team is also going out for the first 2 weeks, to provide much-needed medical attention to hundreds of Ugandans who cannot usually afford to access the help that they require.

On Monday, the teams met to divide resources between their luggage bags, including games equipment, resources for lessons, stationery, shoes and much, much more - all kindly donated by many people from across the Wirral. This equipment will be used by the teams while they are in Uganda, and gifts and resources will be donated to our friends at the Ugandan schools.

To stay up-to-date on news from the teams during their time in Uganda, visit the blog section of this website (www.rockofjoy.co.uk/blogs), which will be updated regularly with texts and emails that have been sent by the team leaders.
