We have started a large self sufficiency program with a coffee plantation in 2019. Since then the land has been cleared, terraced, irrigated and planted with 22,500 coffee bushes.
We are working with Kew Gardens to grow new species of coffee which taste great. Until now all good tasting coffee could only grow at high altitude. Due to climate change these plantations are failing. The new species can grow at low altitude and we hope that this collaboration will keep tasty coffee on the table for the future. We expect our first small crop this year but in due course it should cover all running costs for the schools.
Medical Mission
While the YF group are working in schools, there is a parallel medical program for 2 weeks. We take 3 teenagers each week to work with a medical team of Ugandans and British staff. We travel to remote villages and provide medical and dental care for people who have no access to medical facilities
Our mission is to advance the education, health and well-being of pupils, teachers and communities associated with our three Ugandan schools.
We do this through providing teachers, clean water, brick buildings for classrooms, school meals, a boarding house, and large farming projects to enable self sufficiency.
